Ugandan model self sustaining village
We have been working on this model village since the beginning of 2022. We took a Parish of six villages on the verge of starvation and we accomplished the following:
- Each of the villages has clean drinking water. Also they helped 20 other neighboring villages in their subcounty to have clean drinking water.
- We have abundant crops of maize, beans, sweet potatoes and cassava
- We have abundant vegetable gardens
- We have a poultry project
- We have a piggery project
- We have a goat project
- We have 2 oxen and 2 ploughs
- We have irrigation equipment
- We finished off the building of a huge Church that only had its brick walls and it now has a roof, windows, doors, floors
- We have a license for a medical clinic that is in an office in the Church and we have one nurse who dispenses medicine and an on call Doctor
- We have a nursery school with about 60 kids
- We opened an orphanage with 120 kids that get fed three meals a day and they are clothed and attend school with all their supplies and books and uniforms.
- We deliver life skills training of 19 courses to villagers which has changed the happiness and well being of the entire community.
- The Primary school has hugely expanded its population of students once all the orphans were placed in school.
- We have 160 or so kids on soccer teams
- We have netball, soccer and volleyball equipment
- We have a bluetooth speaker to provide music for dancing
- We have a cinema screen and projector for educational films
- We have internet for online training
- We have a 40 inch TV and DVD player for educational movies and documentaries
- We have a computer and laptop and printer for helping with our projects.
- We were given 10 acres to build a secondary school on
Thats all I can remember right now but I will add more things as I remember. These are the projects that are incomplete and we need help with and I will specify what we need for each one. This model village is going to viewed by leaders from all over Uganda and since our plan is to “pay it forward” across Uganda and then Africa, it needs to be AS IDEAL A VILLAGE AS POSSIBLE. So here are the projects we want help with:
SECONDARY SCHOOL: So our main Volunteer is a Secondary School principal for 5 years prior to the 84 week covid lockdown in Uganda. That is the exact qualification you need to open your own school. His family have donated 10 acres for this school which will be a private school that takes in paying students but also our entire orphan population. We need building materials costing about $40,000 to build this school.
MEDICAL CLINIC: This clinic is registered but it needs to start off with medical equipment and we want to buy an ambupod which is an ambulance made in India for small villages. One type is a motorcycle that pulls an ambulance big enough for one person and inside that is a complete little clinic with oxygen and all the things a normal ambulance has. It can be driven throught villages ringing a bell and people can come and tell the driver about a sick or injured villager and then we can help them and if necessary put them in the ambulance and drive them to a hospital. The ambupod costs about $6500.
